Some Things To Think About BEFORE You Get Married
Before you get married, there are some things you need to know.
Marriage is a wonderful institution. It is the natural next step for two people in love. However, it is a big commitment and something that should be taken very seriously. Therefore, think long and hard before you pop the question or say “yes”. In fact, before you get married, make sure that you consider the following important aspects:
- Sure, The Honeymoon is Great But…. - Hollywood and its movies like to be a tad bit dramatic. After all that is how they make their money. Either the movie marriages are spectacular at all times or they are horrible. Both descriptions are way off! Nobody is ALWAYS happily married and hopefully you won’t be constantly unhappily married.
This is a very important point to keep in mind your whole married live: REAL MARRIED LIVE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MARRIED LIFE YOU SAW IN THE MOVIES. After the honeymoon is over, you should not be shocked to have your first disagreement (hopefully it won’t be and argument) and you should understand that it happens to the best of couples.
- Marriage Takes Work – You have probably already heard this, but it bears repeating. Marriage is a strong and very powerful commitment, but it cannot work on its own. It takes two people to be happily married. You need to be prepared to make sacrifices, compromise, and changes, this is true for both the man and the woman.
- When The Going Gets Rough – Be tough, perhaps make a list of what it was like to be single. Your list might include things like living alone, being alone, not having the love of your spouse, and so on. By remembering the bitterness of single life, you will be able to better appreciate the advantage of getting married and all that your spouse has done or is doing for you.
- Are You Mature Enough for Marriage? – This is an important question to seriously ask yourself and consider. To really understand if you are mature enough, ask yourself the following questions:
- Can you be appreciative and show it?
- Do you know everything or do you have the ability to ask another person for advice or solutions?
- Do you understand that words are very powerful in a marriage or any other relationship and can actually work to destroy it?
- Are you respectful of others, their space, and their feelings?
- Do you have the ability to say “I’m sorry” and actually mean it?
- Do you understand that marriage is a two way street?
Just Because It Isn’t Important To You – Doesn’t mean that it isn’t important to them. To many women it is important that you remember dates such as anniversaries and birthdays. Forgetting either one could mean for trouble on the home front.
Just remember that to each person something is important and it is always work the extra effort to take initiative, you will definitely be glad you did.
As you can see there are many things to think about and consider before you get married. Therefore make sure that you do not take the decision lightly and really contemplate if you are actually ready to take that next step.
One last word. Besides all of the above there is one more thing to be sure of before you get married: ARE YOU REALLY COMPATIBLE. You would be surprised at the number of people who marry without knowing basic information about their partner! (Strange but unfortunately true.)
